Frequently Asked Questions
There is no limit required by the FDA. However, ASRM (American Society of Reproductive Medicine) guidelines recommend that in a population of 800,000, limiting a single donor to no more than 25 births to avoid any significant increased risk of inadvertent consanguineous conception. Diverse donors limits a single donor to no more than 7 families.
There isn’t one clear cut answer for why finding diverse donors of color is so challenging. However, we understand there has been a history of justified distrust of medical institutions in communities of color (e.g. legacies of Tuskegee, forced sterilizations, biased treatments etc.). Cultural or religious stigmas can exist around donation in some communities along with concerns about biological children and/or privacy. Additionally, recruitment has historically focused on predominantly white college campuses and information hasn’t always been inclusive. Furthermore a lack of staff diversity or imposing requirements that can reflect systemic inequities can also deter donors of color.
At Diverse Donors we offer targeted, culturally sensitive outreach in diverse communities while partnering with historically Black and diverse institutions. We were founded by and employ diverse individuals who understand the need to build trust, address the stigma openly and improve communication about this important need.
It varies from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars. Diverse donors facilitates donor agreements between intended parents and donors that work best for both parties.

Psychological
A psychological evaluation of a sperm donor is often required by clinics; our services provide them.
Co-parenting is an ideal option if you are a single man or woman who wants your child to have both biological parents involved. Traditionally co-parenting was due to parents separating or divorcing, but more recently it is becoming a parenting option for many single, gay and lesbian couples. It gives those who seek non-traditional family building the ability to parent with like-minded individuals and successfully work together to raise a child.
If the lesbian couple is not in a civil partnership, then it is possible for the biological father to have parental responsibility. If the lesbian couple is not in a civil partnership, then it is possible for the biological father to still have parental responsibility. The amount of rights depends on several factors, including a legal donor or co-parenting agreement and the desired engagement with the child. Our legal services offer guidance from fertility law specialists.
